Characteristics

Dwarf, glabrous succulent, 20-50 mm high, with truncate stem 20-100 mm thick projecting 20-40 mm from ground (sometimes stem hidden by dense mound up to 300 mm in diam. of small ± spherical branches), with rosette of ascending-spreading, cylindrical (± spherical) branches 5-100 x 4-10 mm on sides without persistent dried-out peduncles, brownish to greyish green. Leaf-rudiments 1-8 x 1.0-1.5 mm, linear to oblanceolate. Cyathia on stout, deciduous peduncle 6-25 mm long, 4-9 mm in diam.; glands 5, green to purple, entire to with 3-7 stubby, yellow teeth on outer margins. Flowering time Oct.-Mar. Capsule 4-6 mm in diam., pubescent.
