Procumbent, occasionally scandent succulent perennial, much branched from the base; branches sparsely rebranched, 4-angled, to 1 m. long and 1 cm. thick, dull greenish brown; angles shallowly toothed, with teeth to 1.5 cm. apart.. Spine-shields oblong-triangular, ± 1 × 2 mm. above the spines, decurrent to shortly above the flowering eye below; spines to 12 mm. long; prickles to 2.5 mm. long.. Leaves acutely deltoid, ± 1.25 × 1 mm.. Cymes solitary, 1-forked, subsessile, but cyme-branches to 2.5 mm. long; bracts subquadrate ± 1.5 × 1.5 mm.. Cyathia ± 2.5 × 4 mm., with cup-shaped involucres; glands transversely oblong, ± 0.7 × 1.7 mm., just touching, reddish yellow; lobes transversely elliptic, ± 0.75 × 1.3 mm.. Male flowers: bracteoles spathulate, laciniate; stamens 2.5 mm. long.. Female flower: styles 2 mm. long, joined at the base, apices distinctly bifid.. Capsule sessile, obtusely 3-lobed, ± 2.5 × 3.2 mm.. Seeds ovoid, 1.5 × 1.3 mm, buff, tuberculate.
