Characteristics

Much-branched succulent shrub to 4 m. high; branches 5-angled, ± 1.5 cm. thick, uniformly green; angles straight to shallowly undulate.. Spine-shields oblong-triangular, with truncate base, to ± 3 × 2 mm. above the spines, decurrent to the flowering eye below on the youngest growth, otherwise contiguous, with spine-pairs 5–10 mm. apart; spines to 6 mm. long; prickles ± 0.5 mm. long.. Leaves deltoid, ± 1.75 × 1.5 mm.. Cymes solitary, 1-forked, subsessile; bracts deltoid, ± 1.2 × 1.5 mm.. Cyathia ± 2.5 × 5 mm., with cup-shaped involucres; glands transversely oblong, ± 1.5 × 2.5 mm., contiguous, yellow; lobes transversely elliptic, ± 1 × 1.5 mm.. Male flowers: bracteoles fan-shaped, deeply laciniate, fimbriate; stamens 4 mm. long.. Female flower: ovary pedicellate; styles 1.8 mm. long, joined for 0.8 mm., apices thickened, rugose.. Capsules and seeds not seen.
