Characteristics

Cyathia subsessile, c. 1.5 × 1.5 mm with cup-shaped involucres; glands 4, c. 0.5 mm wide, transversely elliptic, with conspicuous white to deep pink appendages, the 2 glands on either side of the gap through which the capsule is exserted are larger, obliquely extended to 2.5 × 2 mm with an undulate margin; lobes acutely triangular, pilose.

Leaves subsessile; stipules to 1 mm long, linear; lamina to 18(25) × 10(15) mm, lanceolate with apex acute to broadly ovate with apex obtuse, obliquely cordate at the base, margin entire and often reddened, upper surface often with a large reddish blotch over the midrib.
Annual herb, erect to 25 cm tall or spreading and semi-prostrate with branches to 35 cm long, the whole plant including the cyathia and capsules pilose, with short crisped hairs, to densely pilose with long silky white hairs.
Prostrate or erect herb, up to 300 mm tall, pilose. Leaves conspicuously opposite, ovate, up to 15 x 9 mm. Cyathia in axils of leaves. Flowers white.
Seeds 1.4 × 1 mm, ovoid with truncate base, 4-angled, with 3–4 shallow but distinct transverse ridges and wrinkles, pale pinkish-brown.
Capsule exserted on a reflexed pedicel to 1.5 mm long, 1.8 × 2 mm, acutely 3-lobed, truncate at the base, densely pilose.
Cymes condensed into very short axillary shoots with much-reduced leaf-like lanceolate bracts 2–3 mm long.
Female flower: ovary pedicellate, densely pilose; styles 1.5 mm long, slender, bifid to about halfway.
Male flowers: bracteoles few, filamentous; stamens 2 mm long.
