Characteristics

Shrub up to 2 m high. Stems bent at nodes forming a zig-zag, with scattered hairs when young, glabrescent. Stipules 0.5–0.6 mm long. Leaves: petiole 1.5–5 mm long; lamina lanceolate-ovate to elliptic-ovate, up to 7 cm long and 3 cm wide, base cuneate, tip acuminate, acute or obtuse. Inflorescence bracts oblong-lanceolate to oblong-ovate, 5–7 mm long, 2–3 mm wide. Pseudanthia pink to red, involucral tube 8.5–12 mm long; male flowers 20–30, pedicels 9–11 mm long, filaments 1.7–2.5 mm long; female flower pedicels 6–10 mm long, ovary oblong-ovoid, c. 1.5 mm diam., styles 5–6 mm long. Fruit not seen; seeds ovoid-subglobose, c. 3.3 mm long, 2.7 mm wide, grey.
