Characteristics

Spine shields 3–8 × 2–2.5 mm, obovate, decurrent to less than halfway to the flowering eye below; spines 2–8 mm long; prickles minute to 0.5 mm long, 1–1.5 mm above the spines.

Cyathia c. 2.75 × 3.5 mm, with cup-shaped involucres; glands to 2 mm wide, oblong, touching; lobes subquadrate, 1.25 × 1.5 mm, fimbriate.
Spiny succulent dwarf shrublet to 15 cm high, with densely tufted, stoloniferous branches, forming compact clumps to 50 cm in diameter.
Branches 5–8 mm in diameter, very obtusely 4-angled; angles shallowly sinuate with tubercles 6–10 mm apart along the margins.
