Characteristics

Glabrous tree, 3-18 m high, with rounded crown of ascending-spreading often whorled branches; branches lightly segmented, 35-60 mm thick, 3(-5)-angled, flat between angles, green; spine shields continuous, spines 3-8 mm. Leaf-rudiments 3-7 x 4-6 mm. Cyathia vertically disposed in each of 1-4 cymes per tubercle, on peduncle 1.5-3.0 mm long, 4-6 mm in diam.; glands 5 entire, yellow to green. Flowering time Apr.-Aug. Capsule 6-8 mm in diam., obtusely triangular, exserted for 1.5-9.0 mm.

Spine-shields usually separate. Spines in pairs, 8-18 mm apart. Cymes 2 or 3 together from a flowering-eye. Flowers yellow.
