Characteristics

Shrubby, probably short-lived perennial herb to 75 cm. high, woody at the base.. Leaves petiolate, ovate to 8 × 4 cm., base cuneate, apex acute, margin entire, young leaves minutely hispid especially on the lower surface, mature leaves with a few hairs towards the base on the lower surface; petiole to 8 mm. long, puberulous; glandular stipules minute.. Cymes (detached on the only specimen seen, probably in terminal umbels) with minutely hispid rays, the primary ones apparently ± 1.2 cm. long, forking 3 times; bracts obovate, ± 5 × 4.5 mm., base cuneate, apex apiculate, glabrous.. Cyathia sessile, ± 3 × 3.5 mm., with cup-shaped involucres; glands 4–5, transversely elliptic, 0.5 × 1–1.5 mm.; lobes subquadrate, ± 1 × 1 mm., upper margin deeply toothed.. Male flowers: bracteoles strap-shaped, apex deeply divided, ciliate; stamens 3 mm. long.. Female flower: styles 2 mm. long, joined at the base, apices spreading and distinctly bifid.. Capsule (immature) exserted on a minutely hispid pedicel 4 mm. long, deeply 3-lobed, 4 × 5 mm., glabrous.. Seed (immature) ovoid with dorsally pointed apex, slightly conpressed, 3.2 × 2.8 mm., surface obscurely wrinkled (probably in longitudinal lines); caruncle 1.2 mm. wide.
