Characteristics

Branches usually simple, erect to 17.5 cm tall or trailing to 25 cm long, 8 mm in diameter, obtusely (4)5–7(8)-angled; angles sinuate with tubercles 3–5 mm apart along the margins.

Cyathia c. 2 × 3.5 mm with funnel-shaped involucres; glands transversely oblong to 0.6 × 2 mm, spreading, yellow, separate; lobes rounded, c. 1 × 1 mm, denticulate.
Spine shields 2–3 × 1.5–2 mm, obovate; spines 2.5–6 mm long; prickles 1.5–3 mm long, slender, widely diverging to form an X with the spines.
Cymes solitary, simple; peduncles and cyme branches c. 2 mm long; bracts subquadrate, c. 1.25 mm long, dentate.
Female flower: styles 2 mm long, free almost to the base, spreading, apices capitate.
Seeds c. 1.75 × 1.5 mm, subglobose, densely verrucose, whitish, speckled.
Male flowers 10–12: bracteoles 2 mm long, laciniate; stamens 2.5 mm long.
