Leaves crowded, sessile, glabrous; lamina to 40 × 5 mm, oblanceolate, obtuse at the apex and minutely apiculate, cuneate at the base, entire at the margin, midrib prominent beneath.
Cymes axillary and terminal, 5–10 clustered in pseudumbels at the branch apices, each 2–3-forked, with primary rays to 2 cm long.
Male flowers: bracteoles linear, minutely pubescent; stamens 3.5 mm long, with pedicels pubescent.
Female flower: ovary glabrous; styles 2 mm long, joined at the base, with spreading bifid apices.
Bracts sessile, c. 8 × 5 mm, ovate to rhomboid, yellow.
Branches minutely velvety-puberulous, rarely glabrous.
Stems numerous, sparsely branching erect, to 1 m high.
Straggly perennial herb from a woody rootstock.
