Species

Angiosperms > Asterales > Asteraceae > Euryops

Characteristics

An erect shrublet, moderately to richly branching, often almost divaricately so, 2-6 dm high; young branches leafy, older defoliated or with spine-like erect or suberect leaf remains (c. 5-7 mm long, sub-pungent), pubescent on the young branches, sometimes glabrate or glabrous. Leaves moderately close-set, erecto-patent, flexuous, 0.5-2 cm long, 3-forked above the middle, some 4-5(-7)-lobed or pinnatipartite with 2 pairs of lobes, seldom 2-forked, usually laxly-densely pubescent when young, sometimes glabrate or glabrous; leaf-lobes ± curved and Ungulate near the apex, linear-oblong, 2-8(-10) mm long or shorter, 0.5-0.8(-1) mm wide, subterete or flattened, coriaceous, obtuse-subacute with a blunt often white tip, faintly midveined on the adaxial side. Peduncles terminal at the ramifications, solitary, erect, (5-)9-25 cm long, 0.6-1 mm thick, somewhat thickened at the peduncle-base, terete, striate or faintly sulcate, glabrous. Involucre widely campanulate, rather flatfish, c. 1 cm in diam. Involucral bracts uniseriate, 11-17 (usually 13) connate to 1/3-1/2, lanceolate-narrowly ovate, 5-6 mm long, 1-2 mm wide, acuminate-subacute with puberulous tips, otherwise glabrous, greyish green, indistinctly veined. Receptacle convex, often hemispherical, alveolate. Ray-florets 11-15, yellow. Tube cylindrical, 0.8-1.5 mm long. Lamina oblong-linear-oblanceolate, 4-13 mm long, 1.5-3.5 mm wide, 4(-6)-nerved. Style terete, long, c. 2-4 times the length of the tube; style branches c. 1 mm long, obtuse. Disc-florets c. 50-100. Corolla 3.2-5 mm long. Tube cylindrical, 0.7-1.8 mm long. Limb (narrowly) campanulate, 2.5-3.2 mm long; lobes ovate-narrowly ovate, 0.8-1 mm long. Anthers 1.5-2 mm long incl. the ovate obtuse appendage. Style terete; style branches 0.6-0.9 mm long, with truncate or somewhat convex tips. Pappus 0. Achenes clavate-turbinate-oblong-obovate, 2-3 mm long, c. 1(-1.5) mm wide, green-brown-blackish, with c. 10 coarse and irregular bullate or verrucose ridges, the whole surface covered with very minute whitish papillae (visible only under high magnification).
