Characteristics

A much or moderately branching, rather lax shrub, 0.4-1.7 m high, wholly glabrous or sometimes sparsely arachnose in the leaf-axils, with little or no surface resin. Younger branches closely to rather laxly leafy; older branches nude and marked with leaf-scars. Leaves erecto-patent-spreading, narrowly lanceolate-linear, entire, 5-15 mm long, 0.7-2 mm wide, flattened, somewhat fleshy, rugulose when dry, dull green or somewhat glaucous, usually widest near the base and slightly tapering to an acute and apiculate or sometimes obtuse and mucronate apex; abaxial side somewhat convex or even sub-carinate with a distinct midrib; adaxial side more flat, midveined; Ieaf-base dilated and almost half-clasping with glabrous or sparsely ciliated margins. Peduncles lateral in the leaf-axils, 0.5-3 cm long, slender, 0.3-0.6 mm thick, terete or faintly striate, disposed in an elongated raceme, seldom a short raceme or a corymb at the branch ends. Peduncle-base surrounded by two lateral reduced leaves; these subulate, 0.5-1.5 mm long or rarely longer, often with fimbrillate-ciliolate margins. Involucre hemispherical-campanulate with an obtuse-almost truncate base, 3-7 mm wide, 2.5-6 mm high. Involucral bracts 5(-6), subuniseriate, connate only basally (to less than 1/4), ovate-lanceolate, herbaceous, distinctly 3-6-veined, obtuse-acute; the free parts 2-5 mm long, 1.5-3 mm wide, often with membranous margins. Ray-florets 2-6, yellow. Tube 1-2 mm long, cylindrical. Lamina oblong-(narrowly) elliptic-oblong, 2-3 mm long, 0.8-2.5 mm wide, 4(-6)-nerved. Style terete with swollen base; style branches 0.5-1 mm long with obtuse-rounded tips. Disc-florets c. 10-15(-20), often about 13. Corolla 3.2-5 mm long. Tube 1-1.8 mm long, cylindrical. Limb narrowly campanulate, 2-3 mm long; lobes deltoid-narrowly ovate, 0.5-1 mm long. Anthers 1.2-2 mm long inch the ovate-oblong, obtuse-subacute appendage. Style terete with swollen base; stylophore short but distinct; style branches 0.2-0.6 mm long with slightly convex-almost truncate tips. Pappus bristles numerous, (1-)1.5-2 mm long, white. Achenes narrowly obovate-obovate-oblong, 2-3 mm long, 1-1.5 mm wide, densely villous with white hairs, mucilaginous when soaked, with 5 narrow veins under the indumentum.
More

Flowerheads solitary in upper axils forming racemes or corymbs, on short peduncles 5-30 mm long, radiate, yellow; involucre hemispherical, 3-7 mm diam., bracts 5 or 6, connate < 1/4. Cypselas densely white-hairy, mucilaginous when wet.
