Characteristics

Small tree, usually 3–10 m high, sometimes scrambling or climbing. Leaves with stipules connate by thin rim, soon splitting, partly adnate to petiole; petiole 15–30 mm long; lamina elliptic to slightly obovate, 10–19 cm long, 4.5–10 cm wide, acute to attenuate at base, rounded apically, often with a short blunt point; midrib slightly raised on lower surface; veins indistinct. Inflorescence terminal, much-branched cymose, 7–16 cm long, few-to many-flowered, often weakly branched; bracts broadly triangular, c. 3 mm long, halfway up pedicel. Calyx 10–15 mm long. Corolla narrowly funnel-shaped, 4–8 cm long, cream to yellow, turning orange-yellow with age. Stamens included to just exserted, inserted on a thickened rim c. halfway up corolla tube. Gynoecium 5–8 cm long; stigma distinctly 2-lobed, with lobes 7–10 mm long. Fruit c. 45 mm long, maturing orange to red.
