Characteristics

Rhizome neck 7–14 cm, 1.1–2.5 cm in diam., internodes 2–12 mm. Culms 3–5 m, 1–3 cm in diam.; internodes terete, 10–15 cm, rigid, initially glaucous and densely white powdery, longitudinal ribs obscure; wall 1–4 mm thick; supra-nodal ridge prominent, initially white powdery; sheath scar prominent, sometimes with persistent remains of sheath base. Branches 4–8 per node, deflexed, subequal, slender. Culm sheaths gradually deciduous, distally broadly rounded, cartilaginous, glabrous, white powdery at base, longitudinal ribs conspicuous marginally and distally; auricles and oral setae absent; ligule steeply arcuate, ca. 1 mm, glabrous; blade erect, triangular or linear-lanceolate, glabrous. Leaves 2–4 per ultimate branch; sheath margins yellow-brown ciliolate; auricles and oral setae absent; ligule truncate, ca. 1 mm, glabrous; blade lanceolate, 5–11 × 0.7–1.5 cm, glabrous, secondary veins 3-or 4-paired, transverse veins distinct, base broadly cuneate, one margin spinescent-serrulate, other margin obscure.
