Culm sheaths persistent, narrowly triangular to rounded, longer than internodes, leathery, sometimes slightly white powdery and sparsely yellow-brown setose, shoulders with steep triangular projections, longitudinal ribs conspicuous; auricles and oral setae absent; ligule irregular, steeply arcuate, glabrous; blade erect or reflexed, narrowly triangular to linear-lanceolate, glabrous, level. A bamboo. It grows 4 m tall and the culms are 1.5-2.5 cm across. The internodes are 15-17 cm long. There are 7-18 branches at each node. There are 1 or 2 leaves at the last branch. The leaf blade is 4-10 cm long by 5-10 mm wide.
We have no specific information, but Fargesia species are generally found as an understorey in evergreen broadleaved to coniferous forest, depending on elevation. This species is found at elevations from 2,700-3,700 metres.
