Shrubby bamboo. Culms 0.8–1.3 cm in diam.; internodes terete, 8–20 cm, initially lower parts white powdery, powdery-black when old, glabrous; wall 2.5–4 mm thick; supra-nodal ridges level; sheath scar prominent, initially appressed brown setulose. Branches 15–18 per node, deflexed; buds elliptic, setose near ciliate margins.
