Characteristics

Shortly perennial herb to 30 cm high.. Stem simple or branched.. Leaves lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, 25–40 mm long, 1.5–9 mm wide, obtuse, margins revolute, decurrent or connate and dilated at base, with 1 main vein, prominent beneath.. Inflorescence axillary, many-flowered fascicles; bracts subtending inflorescences slightly inflated, linear-oblong, 30–32 mm long, 1 mm wide, ± 3–4 mm wide at the point of inflation, obtuse.. Flowers purple, mauve or white, sessile or minutely pedicellate.. Calyx almost divided to the base with tube 1.5–2 mm long; segments oblong-lanceolate, ± 1.2–2.4 mm long, ± 0.6 mm wide, apex thickened and papillate, obtuse, with 1 vein, sometimes very narrowly winged.. Corolla tube 0.9–2.5 mm long; lobes 1.5–2 mm long, lanceolate to ± ovate-lanceolate, 0.5–0.8 mm wide, subacute to ± obtuse.. Filaments ± 0.9–2.5 mm long, inserted just below the sinuses of corolla lobes; anthers ± 0.6 mm long, apiculate.. Ovary ellipsoid, 1.7 mm long, 0.7–1 mm diameter; style 2.2–2.7 mm long; stigma minute, bilobed.. Capsule obovoid, 1.2–  long, 1–1.5 mm diameter.. Seeds ± 0.4 mm in diameter, surface reticulate.
