Characteristics

Leaves 10–30 x 3–9 mm., the lower obovate-oblong or oblong-spathulate, obtuse at the apex, attenuate at the base; the upper oblong-lanceolate, acute at the apex, dilated, scarious, very broadly 7-nerved and connate at the base, forming an involucre surrounding the inflorescence, the secondary nerves finely reticulated.

Calyx tube 2–2.5 mm. long, campanulate; lobes 1.7–2 x 1.3 mm., oblong-ovate or spathulate-ovate, obtuse, mucronate, with recurved spreading or squarrous apices, carinate down the back, with a conspicuous midrib and numerous sub-parallel nerves from the base and anastomosing secondary nerves near the apex.
Corolla tube 2.5–3 mm. long, smooth with obscure elongated epiderm cells; lobes 1.7–2(2.5) x 1.3–1.5 mm., broadly ovate, subacute at the apex, externally smooth, and internally minutely papillose.
Ovary 2.8–3 x 1.6–1.8 mm., obovoid-ellipsoid; style 1.5–1.75 mm. long; stigma of 2 filiform recurved lobes.
Flowers blue, in axillary and terminal many-flowered fascicles; pedicels 0.5–1 mm. long, 4-ridged.
Filaments 1.6–2 mm. long, filiform; anthers 0.75 mm., ellipsoid.
Seeds 0.6–0.8 mm. in diam., subglobose, minutely scrobiculate.
Stem more or less branched from the base, 4-ridged.
