Annual. Leaf-blades narrow; ligule a line of hairs. Inflorescence a 1-sided false raceme, the spikelets borne in sessile deciduous clusters; each cluster composed of a fertile spikelet accompanied by 2 bristle-like vestigial spikelets, the one sessile, the other upon a pedicel-like rhachis. Fertile spikelet narrowly elliptic; glumes as long as the spikelet, 1-nerved, membranous; lemma much shorter than the glumes, nerveless, hyaline; palea suppressed; stamens 3. Caryopsis narrowly elliptic, dorsally compressed.
