Characteristics

Subshrub, 20–60 cm. high, with long spreading branches.. Old shoots strongly woody with grey-brown bark; young stems, leaves and inflorescences greyish green from dense cover of hairs.. Leaves not very crowded (internodes 5–25 mm.), lanceolate to elliptic, 15–45 mm. long, 2.5–20 mm. broad, obtuse but often pointed, attenuate into a 0.5–3 mm. long petiole.. Flowering racemes elongate, with 5–10 flowers on 1.5–6 mm. long pedicels; fruiting racemes up to 12 cm. long, with 6–9 mm. long ascending pedicels.. Sepals 7–11 mm. long.. Petals greenish, probably purplish when older, clawed, 12–16 mm. long; blade with rounded apex, 5–6 mm. long, 2.5–3.5 mm. broad.. Longer filaments subulate, shorter linear, all 1-nerved.. Each lateral stamen surrounded at base by a horseshoe-shaped nectary.. Ovary 5.5–7 mm. long, hairy all round; style thick, ± 1 mm. long; stigma conoidal, bifid, ± 1.5 mm. long.. Siliqua oblong, 15–26 mm. long, 3–6 mm. broad, 2.5–5 times as long as broad; valves hairy; septum with very densely interwoven fibres and minute hyaline areas; style subulate, 1.5–2 mm. long..
