Characteristics

Annual herb, erect, 10–75 cm high, unbranched or branching in its upper part; stems red-brown, hispid-pubescent.. Leaves opposite proximally, alternate distally, linear to lanceolate (rarely ovate), 1–6 cm long, 0.1–1(–1.6) cm wide, narrowing to the base and half-amplexicaul at the very base, the margins denticulate with few teeth or entire, the apex obtuse or acute, hispidulous especially on the midrib and margins.. Capitula terminal, solitary or in lax leafy corymbs, the individual heads 5–12 mm long, 9–14 mm in diameter, including the ray florets to 24 mm in diameter; stalks of individual heads 2–15 cm long, thinly hispid-pubescent and/or glandular-hairy; phyllaries ± 34, 4-seriate, the outermost smallest, green bordered with white, lanceolate, 3–7(–11?) mm long, 0.4–1 mm wide, acute to acuminate, thinly pubescent; receptacle slightly convex.. Ray florets yellow to orange, ± 30, tube 2.4–2.8 mm, with a few glandular hairs, ray 4–13 mm long, 0.7–3 mm wide, shortly retuse at the apex, style 2.5–3 mm; disc florets yellow to orange, many, the tube 3–3.8 mm long, the lobes 0.2–0.3 mm long, anthers ± 1 mm long, style ± 4 mm long.. Achenes brown, 1–1.2 mm long, 0.6–0.7 mm wide, 0.2 mm thick, hairy; pappus hairs white, many, to 3 mm long, appressed-subplumose, quickly deciduous.
