Characteristics

Die ssp. transvaalensis unterscheidet sich von der Typusunterart durch die breiteren (bis 6 mm) Blätter, die nie drüsig, dafür immer abstehend borstig behaart sind, die längeren Hüllschuppen (die innersten bis 5 mm lang) sowie die fast immer weissen Ligulae. Bei grossen Blättern können bisweilen Andeutungen von zwei Seitennerven festgestellt werden. Oft zu beobachtende sterile Achänen verkahlen und zeigen nicht die typischen kopfigen Haare.
