Perennial herb; stems 0.9-1.0 m long, sprawling or pendulous. Leaves alternate, petiolate; blade ovate to elliptic, upper leaves often sessile, margins dentate, densely bristly hairy. Heads radiate, solitary, pedunculate. Involucral bracts biseriate, ± equal in size, bristly hairy. Flowers: ray florets white or mauve; disc florets yellow; Apr., Jul.-Oct. Fruit with cypsela obovate, yellow-brown, shortly hairy. Pappus uniseriate, of barbellate bristles, present in ray and disc cypsela.
