Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 5 m high. Leaves: petiole 5–28 mm long, slightly swollen at base and apex, ± geniculate; lamina elliptic, obovate or oblanceolate, 30–140 mm long, 15–50 mm wide; base acute to cuneate; tip acuminate to caudate; venation comprising 6–10 lateral veins and reticulate interlateral veins; glands elliptic, intramarginal, 5–22 mm from base of lamina. Male flowers: pedicels 3.5–11 mm long; disc undulate, 1–1.2 mm high, with dense trichomes; stamens 18–23, connate up to 0.6 mm above top of disc, filaments free for 2.5–3 mm. Female flowers: pedicels 9–21 mm long; calyx lobes lanceolate-ovate to ovate; disc entire, c. 0.6 mm high, with dense trichomes. Fruit broadly ovoid, 24–27 mm long, 21–23 mm diam.; sarcocarp 4–7 mm thick, red; endocarp not beaked, sharply 3-ridged at sutures, intersutural faces convex, 17–18 mm long, 12–13 mm wide, smooth.
