Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 5 m high. Leaves: petiole 3–37 mm long, slightly swollen at base and apex, ± geniculate; lamina elliptic to obovate, 30–150 mm long, 13–65 mm wide; base attenuate, cuneate or obtuse; tip shortly acuminate to obtuse; venation comprising 6–9 lateral veins and reticulate interlateral veins; glands elliptic, submarginal, 0.5–6 mm from base of lamina. Male flowers: pedicels 2–4 mm long; disc undulate, c. 1 mm high, with dense trichomes; stamens 20–24, connate up to 0.4 mm above top of disc, filaments free for 1–2.5 mm. Female flowers: pedicels 6–10 mm long; calyx lobes broadly ovate; disc entire, c. 0.7 mm high, with dense trichomes. Fruit ± globose or depressed-globose, 18–22 mm long, 22–24 mm diam.; sarcocarp 4–7 mm thick, pink-red; endocarp not beaked, sharply 2-or 3-ridged at sutures, intersutural faces convex, 15–18 mm long, 14–16 mm wide, rugose.
