Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 7 m high. Leaves: petiole 3–13 mm long, slightly swollen at base only, not geniculate; lamina obovate to oblanceolate, 25–140 mm long, 8–70 mm wide; base attenuate; tip acute, acuminate or obtuse; venation comprising 6–10 lateral veins and reticulate interlateral veins; glands elliptic to oblong, submarginal or halfway between margin and midrib, 2–7 mm from base of lamina. Male flowers: pedicels 1–15 mm long; disc undulate with irregular slits, c. 0.3 mm high, glabrous; stamens 28–40, connate up to 2 mm above top of disc, filaments free for 2–3 mm. Female flowers: pedicels 4–8 mm long; calyx lobes ovate; disc irregularly crenate, c. 0.4 mm high, with dense trichomes. Fruit subglobose to depressed-globose, 21–30 mm long, 20–30 mm diam.; sarcocarp 5–10 mm thick, orange-red; endocarp prominently beaked for 2–3 mm, sharply 3-or 4-ridged at sutures, intersutural faces ±flat to concave, 20–23 mm long, 11–13 mm wide, strongly ruguose.
