Third backcross generation derivative from a male Fragaria virginiana glauca collected in the Wasatch Mountains near Salt Lake City, Utah. Selected 1971 to 1972. Tree: smaller than Tioga; leaves lighter and more yellow than those of Tioga; less susceptible to verticillium wilt than Tioga and Tufts. Recommended for home gardens as day-neutral (can be made to produce fruit 3 months after planting). Named for Brighton Valley of Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah, source of wild strawberry Fragaria virginiana glauca in parentage. Fruit: flesh flavor and quality not as good as those of Aptos or Hecker; skin dark reddish-orange, glossy shellac-like sheen.
