Origin: in East Malling, England, by D. Simpson, Hort. Res. Intl. Rapella × Selva; selected in 1986; tested as EMR 28; introd. in 1992. Tree: smaller than Rapella; abundant runners; moderately resistant to verticillium wilt; susceptible to powdery mildew, but symptoms largely confined to leaves, seldom found on fruit; susceptible to twospotted spider mite. Fruit: firm; primaries can be irregular; good flavor; quality better than standard Rapella; day-neutral with similar season as Rapella; fresh-market use.
