Cultivation

Origin: in Geneva, N.Y., by George L. Slate, New York State Expt. Sta. Introd. in 1951. Dresden × Fairfax; cross made in 1940; tested as N.Y. 24248. Tree: vigorous, healthy, propagates rapidly, one of the more productive varieties. Fruit: wedge-conic to conic; skin attractive, glossy, tough, medium to slightly dark red; flesh firm, red to center, tart, fair to good; achenes yellow, even with surface of the berry; outstanding for processing, freezing, preserving, and canning; flavor rather tart for a good dessert berry; first picking with or slightly before Sparkle.
