Cultivation

A new June-bearing strawberry cultivar for eastern central Canada with high levels of ellagic and gallic acids, catechin and epicatechin. Origin: S. Khanizadeh, L. Gauthier, J. Cousineau, D. Buszard, and C. Hébert, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Les Fraises de l’ Île d’Orleans Inc., McGill Univ., Quebec, Canada. AC-L’Acadie × AC-Yamaska; cross made in 1996; tested as FIO-9623-55. Tree: vigorous on nonfumigated soils compared with Chandler; high yielding. Fruit: very firm; large; long shelf life; high levels of proanthocyanidins, ellagic acid, gallic acid, catechin, and epicatechin.
