Cultivation

Origin: in Clearwater, Minn., by Bertha Rosa Zurn Brunnen, Locke Lake Nursery, Monticello, Minn. Introd. in 1963. Plant patent 2429; 28 July 1964. Open-pollinated seedling of Red Rich. Tree: everbearing; bisexual; quite hardy; very productive; apparently resistant to leaf spot; crown mediumheavy; medium number of runner plants produced, some bearing the first season. Fruit: fairly large, up to 1 1/2 inches long; cordate; skin glossy, medium dark red; achenes relatively small, protruding somewhat above the surface; flesh quite firm, red with a whitish core area, relatively fine-textured, quite juicy, flavor sweet, nonacid; ships well; suitable for canning and freezing.
