Cultivation

A fresh-market strawberry producing fruit from April to October in central coastal California. Origin: in Watsonville, Calif., by S.D. Nelson, M.D. Nelson, and D.T. Schmida, Plant Sciences, Inc. Open-pollinated seedling of unknown parentage; selected in 1988; introd. in 1990. USPP 8205. Tree: short-day type; moderate chilling requirement; vigorous. Moderately susceptible to powdery mildew and two-spotted spider mite; tolerant to virus diseases occurring in California. Fruit: medium to large; firm; glossy, relatively dark red external and dark red internal color; medium conic; achenes above surface; excellent flavor; good shipping qualities; moderately susceptible to Botrytis; susceptible to flower thrip.
