Cultivation

A fresh-market strawberry producing fruit from midApril to early September in central coastal California. Origin: in Watsonville, Calif., by M.D. Nelson, S.D. Nelson, and D.T. Schmida, Plant Sciences, Inc. Open-pollinated seedling of unknown parentage; introd. in 1991. USPP 8346. Tree: short-day type; moderately high chilling requirement; vigorous. Moderately susceptible to powdery mildew, angular leaf spot, aphids and two-spotted spider mite; susceptible to crown rot and anthracnose. Fruit: relatively large; moderately firm; glossy, bright red external and light red interior color; medium to long conic; achenes at surface; good flavor; moderate holding quality; moderately susceptible to Botrytis rot; susceptible to flower thrip.
