Cultivation

Origin: in Agassiz, British Columbia, Canada, by Hugh A Daubeny, Canada Dept. of Agr. Res. Sta., Agassiz. Introd. in 1971. Puget Beauty × Northwest. Cross made in 1962, selected in 1963, tested as 62-65-51 and BC 18. Tree: vigorous, petioles upright, thick; first year runner production adequate, but less than Northwest, second year heavy; hardier, more productive and more tolerant to fruit rot than Northwest. Released as a possible replacement for Northwest. Fruit: slightly larger than Northwest; conical, but not as elongated as Northwest; skin dark red, achenes at surface or slightly sunken; flesh medium to dark red, flavor good, firmer than Northwest; for fresh market and freezing; ripens 2 to 3 days after Northwest.
