Characteristics

Small, decumbent shrub, rooting at nodes; stems puberulous, later glabrous. Leaves sessile, linear, 2–5 mm long, 0.5–1 mm wide; upper surface scurfy or with minute, scattered hairs, gland-dotted; underside pubescent; margin recurved, usually covering midrib; sheath ciliate only near attachment to leaf. Flowers solitary or in much-branched dichasia; bracts similar to leaves; bracteoles petiolate, attached to inside of sheath or free. Calyx 5–6.5 mm long, with scattered hairs, or ribs glabrous and grooves puberulous. Petals 5, 6–9 mm long, white. Stamens usually 6. Style 3-branched; stigmas linear to clavate; placentas 3, parietal; ovules 1–5 on each placenta.
