Characteristics

Small shrub, procumbent to erect; stems with spreading hairs. Leaves petiolate, lanceolate, oblong, ovate or oblong-elliptic, 2–6 mm long, densely pubescent on upper surface, later almost glabrous, puberulous below; margins loosely recurved; midrib and much of underside exposed; sheath short. Flowers in loose dichasia; bracts and bracteoles similar to leaves or smaller, often lanceolate. Calyx cylindrical, 4.5–6 mm long; ribs pubescent; grooves puberulous. Petals 5, 6–10 mm long, l.5–4 mm wide, pink to purple. Stamens 6. Style 3-branched; stigmas short, linear or clavate; ovules 3, basal; funicles long, reflexed. Seeds rugulose.
