Characteristics

Much-branched small shrub; stems slender with fine spreading or upturned hairs, later glabrous, often shining, red when young. Leaves petiolate, clustered, 4–11.5 mm long, usually less than 1 mm wide and curved; upper surface glabrous and shining; underside puberulous; margins recurved covering midrib. Flowers in dense, head-like dichasia; bracts and bracteoles similar to leaves but with longer petioles, or bracteoles reduced; petioles wide, flat, strongly ciliate near apex. Calyx 5–7.5 mm long, c. 1 mm diam.; 4-or 5-ribbed, glabrous or sparsely pilose outside. Petals 4 or 5, narrow, without scale on claw, 7.5–12.5 mm long, pink. Stamens usually 4. Style undivided or with 2 short branches; stigmas small; ovules 2 or 3, basal.
