Characteristics

Small shrub; stems slender, erect or ascending, with short hooked hairs; internodes to 25 mm long. Leaves petiolate, linear to oblong-linear, occasionally linear-oblanceolate, 2.5–6.5 mm long, usually glabrous and punctate on upper surface, pubescent below; margins recurved; midrib often exposed, glabrous; petiole ciliate. Flowers in much-branched, open, dichasia; bracts and bracteoles similar to leaves, usually smaller. Calyx cylindrical, 5–9 mm long, often tinged pink or red; base with short hooked hairs, often dense, extending to sides of ribs. Petals 5, 8–11 mm long, pink. Stamens 6. Style 3-branched; stigmas liliform or linear; ovules 3, basal; funicles long, recurved. Seeds smooth.
