Characteristics

Small erect shrub; stems to 30 cm, pubescent, later glabrous. Leaves shortly petiolate or almost sessile, linear-oblong, 3–6 mm long, c. 1 mm wide, usually clustered at nodes; upper surface encrusted, punctate, almost glabrous; margins recurved; midrib exposed on underside; petiole ciliate. Flowers in much-branched, spreading dichasia; bracts and bracteoles similar to leaves, sometimes smaller. Calyx 7–12 mm long, c. 2 mm diam., wider near the middle, almost glabrous, glandular, powdery; lobes with apices curved outwards. Petals 12–15 (occasionally to 18) mm long, deep pink. Stamens 5 or 6. Style 3–6–branched; stigmas linear; ovules numerous; placentation parietal.
