Characteristics

Spreading or compact small shrub; stems setulose-pilose, becoming almost glabrous. Leaves petiolate, clustered, linear or oblong-linear, 3–8 mm long, 1–1.5 mm wide; densely pubescent; upper surface punctate; margins recurved; midrib covered or exposed, pubescent; petiole flattened, almost winged, ciliate, constricted at base of lamina. Flowers in dense dichasia, more open when mature, or sometimes solitary, pink to pale violet; bracts and bracteoles similar to leaves, or petiole longer and/or wing more pronounced. Calyx 7.5–12.5 mm long; ribs 5, with spreading hairs to c. 1 mm long; grooves puberulous; inner surface pubescent. Petals 5, 12–25 mm long; claw and scale wide. Stamens 5 or 6. Style 3-branched; stigmas clavate; ovules 20 or more; placentation parietal.
