Characteristics

Annual herb; stems ascending, with short spreading hairs. Leaves petiolate, obovate, 3–5 mm long; upper surface glabrous; underside glabrous or puberulous; margins recurved or flat. Flowers in irregular dichasia; bracts and bracteoles similar to leaves or oblong-lanceolate; margins always recurved; midrib exposed. Calyx 5–6 mm long, sometimes inflated at the middle, puberulous. Petals 5, 10 mm long, pink or purple. Stamens 6–8. Style 3-branched; stigmas clavate; ovules numerous; placentation parietal. Seeds reticulate.
