Characteristics

Small compact shrub with many vertical branches; stems minutely pubescent when young; internodes up to 7 mm long. Leaves sessile, linear to oblong, 2–4 mm long, 0.5–1 mm wide, usually appressed; base produced into two lobes, often flattened; upper surface glabrous or minutely pubescent, punctate; underside pubescent; margins recurved covering midrib. Flowers usually solitary or in short, 3–5-flowered dichasia; bracts similar to leaves; bracteoles sessile or shortly petiolate and then adnate to inside of sheath, or free. Calyx 3.8–5 mm long, c. 1 mm diam., 5-or 6-ribbed, minutely pubescent or almost glabrous outside; glabrous inside or with long transparent hairs especially near base. Petals 5, 5.3–7 mm long. Stamens usually 6. Style 2-or 3-branched; stigmas linear; placentas 2 or 3, parietal; ovules 1–3 per placenta. Seeds minutely pubescent.
