Characteristics

Perennial herb with low procumbent or ascending stems up to 12 cm tall or strictly erect stems up to c. 40 cm tall; stems simple or ± branching or more rarely several from the base, terete, often purplish, pubescent or glabrous. Leaves alternate, up to c. 7 x 0.3 cm but usually narrower, narrowly linear to linear-oblanceolate, apex acute, tapering gradually to the base, margins entire, plane or ± revolute, entire or sometimes sparsely subdentate, scaberulous to glabrous, gland-pitted, midrib prominent below, lateral nerves not developed. Capitula solitary in the forks of the branches or solitary at the apex of the branches, 0.6-1.0 cm in diam., urceolate to campanulate; involucral bracts c. 5-seriate, up to c. 9 mm long, outer short ovate, increasing in length regularly to the innermost, outer often with a short linear leaf-like appendage, inner ± coriaceous abruptly acuminate, margins ciliate, araneose to glabrous outside. Receptacular paleae c. 2.2 mm long, fimbrillose ± to the base. Ray-florets yellow, female, c. 1.0 cm long, tubular in the lower half; ligule narrowly oblong shortly 3-lobed at the apex, minutely glandular at the back. Hermaphrodite disk-florets yellow, c. 6 mm long, tapering to the base from half-way, ± tubular above, lobes more than half the length of the limb tapering to an acute apex, glandular-puberulous outside. Cypselas narrowly turbinate, 2 mm long, silky-villous; pappus biseriate, paleae ± elliptic, c. 1.5 mm long, outer series without aristae, inner with aristae not quite as long as the paleae or more shortly aristate.
