Characteristics

Leaf 80–250 mm long; free part 10–17 mm long, ending below flowers. Spike 10–35 mm long, 15–80-flowered. Flowers crowded, porrect, 5 × 3.5 mm, pale green to yellowish green with a dark reddish black to purple black labellum, petals with a central band. Dorsal sepal 2–2.3 × 1.5 mm; margins glabrous. Lateral sepals 3.2 × 0.8 mm, divergent; base shallowly humped; apex bluntly pointed. Petals narrowly ovate-lanceolate, 2–2.2 × 0.3 mm; margins glabrous or irregular; apex usually with a stalked, bead-like gland, sometimes shortly mucronate. Labellum stiffly hinged, elliptic to obovate when flattened, 2.2–2.3 × 1.3 mm, thick and fleshy; margins slightly irregular; apex blunt. Callus dark, fleshy, colluviate, broadest near base then narrowed and oblong, extending nearly to labellum apex.

Environment

Widespread and common with most records from inland areas, although occasionally recorded in coastal and near-coastal habitats of SW Vic. and S.A. Commonly found growing under a canopy of shrubs and trees in Callitris woodland, mallee vegetation and drier forests in freely draining sandy soil, often over limestone.
