Leaf 100–200 mm long; free part 10–20 mm long, ending well below flowers. Spike 15–25 mm long, 5–25-flowered. Flowers crowded, nodding, 5 × 3 mm, green to yellowish green, with or without red markings, sometimes not opening widely. Dorsal sepal 2 × 1.6 mm; margins glabrous; apex pointed, sometimes gland-tipped. Lateral sepals divergent, 3 × 1.5 mm; base humped; apex often gland-tipped. Petals 2.5 × 1 mm; margins glabrous; apex often gland-tipped. Labellum stiffly hinged, 3 × 2 mm, ovate to obovate, thick, fleshy; margins glabrous; apex pointed. Callus broadest near base then sharply tapered, extending nearly to labellum apex.
Widespread and common in a wide range of habitats, including coastal scrub, wallum, heath, heathy forest, moss gardens over rock plates, montane heath, buttongrass moorland, and swamp margins in freely draining sand and moist to wet sandy or peaty soils.
