Much like no. 8 [Gentiana andrewsii Griseb.]; cal-lobes foliaceous, broadly lanceolate to obovate, two-fifths to five-sixths as wide as long; cor-lobes prolonged beyond their adnation to the plaits into firm, ovate or oblong, rounded lobes, the plaits about as long as the cor-lobes, shallowly 2–3-toothed or-lobed; 2n=26. Moist meadows, woods, and thickets; Me. and adj. Que. to Md. and O., and s. in the mts. to N.C. and Tenn. Sept., Oct.
