Characteristics

Plant plietesial or polycarpic with short, robust caudex. Internodes 2–4. Flowering stems lax to erect, simple or sparsely branched, (4–) 8–25 (–30) cm high. Basal leaves oblanceolate to spathulate, 20–70 mm long, 5–20 mm wide. Stem leaves sessile, narrowly oblanceolate to elliptic, 15–40 mm long, 4–10 mm wide. Terminal inflorescence loosely to densely subcorymbose, (1–) 2–5 (–11)-flowered; pedicels (1–) 2–3 cm long, not subfiliform. Flowers 5-merous, 2–3 cm diam. Calyx lobes linear-oblong to broadly lanceolate, usually 5–10 mm long, smooth to minutely papillose-serrulate on margins, acute. Corolla white with colourless to grey-violet veins; tube 3–5 mm long; lobes 10–13 mm long. Stamens 5; anthers (1.5–) 2–2.3 (–2.5) mm long. Ovary 7–9 mm long, with 30–70 ovules; stigmas 0.6–0.7 mm long. Capsule to 20 mm long. Seeds ±ovoid to subreniform, 0.8–1.2 mm long, straw yellow to reddish orange.
