Characteristics

Plant monocarpic; caudex small. Internodes 2 or 3 (–4). Flowering stems lax to erect, simple or sparsely branched, 8–35 cm high. Basal leaves narrowly oblanceolate, 15–30 (–50) mm long, 3–7 mm wide. Stem leaves lanceolate to narrowly oblanceolate, 10–20 (–30) mm long, 4–7 mm wide. Terminal inflorescence subcorymbose, (3–) 7–11 (–20)-flowered; pedicels 1–2 (–6.5) cm long, subfiliform. Flowers (4-or) 5-merous, to c. 2 cm diam. Calyx lobes linear to narrowly lanceolate, 4–6 (–7) mm long, smooth to minutely papillose-serrulate on margins, with apex erect to ±recurved, acute to acuminate. Corolla creamy white or occasionally strongly violet-tinged, with grey-violet veins; tube 2–3 mm long; lobes to 10 (–12) mm long. Stamens (4 or) 5; anthers (1–) 1.5–1.8 (–2) mm long. Ovary 5–8 mm long, with 60–100 ovules; stigmas c. 0.5 mm long. Capsule to 20 (–25) mm long. Seeds spherical to ovoid, 0.5–0.7 (–1) mm long, dark straw yellow to dull reddish orange.
