Characteristics

Plant monocarpic; caudex almost obsolete to subrobust. Internodes 3–5 (–9). Flowering stems erect, sparsely branching, often from near base, (6–) 10–25 cm high. Basal leaves ovate-spathulate, oblanceolate or sublinear, 10–40 mm long, 2–15 mm wide. Stem leaves narrowly oblanceolate, 12–25 mm long, 2–7 mm wide. Terminal inflorescence usually ± densely corymbose, (1–) 3–5 (–10)-flowered; pedicels 0.6–3 cm long, not subfiliform. Flowers (4-or) 5-merous, 2–2.5 cm diam. Calyx lobes sublinear to lanceolate, (4–) 6–8 mm long, ±smooth marginally, acute. Corolla white, often strongly violet-tinged, with grey-violet veins; tube 3.5–4 mm long; corolla lobes 9–13 mm long. Stamens (4 or) 5; anthers 1–1.9 mm long. Ovary 8–10 mm long, with 50–80 ovules; stigmas c. 0.5 mm long. Capsule 15–20 mm long. Seeds spherical to ovoid, 0.8–1 mm long, brownish orange.
