Characteristics

Plant monocarpic (biennial?); caudex small. Internodes 2 or 3 (–6). Flowering stems lax to erect, often branching from near base, 12–25 (–40) cm high. Basal leaves oblanceolate-spathulate, 20–40 mm long, 5–10 mm wide. Stem leaves narrowly oblanceolate, 15–30 mm long, 3–7 mm wide. Terminal inflorescence (1–) 5–7 (–9)-flowered; pedicels (1–) 2–4 (–7) cm long, subfiliform. Flowers (4-or) 5-merous, to c. 2 cm diam. Calyx lobes linear to linear-lanceolate, 5–7 (–9) mm long, almost smooth to minutely papillose-serrulate on margins, ± acuminate and sometimes recurved at apex. Corolla white with grey-violet veins; tube c. 4 mm long; lobes to 9 mm long. Stamens (4 or) 5; anthers c. 1.5 mm long. Ovary c. 8 mm long, with 70–100 ovules; stigmas c. 0.5 mm long. Capsule to 20 mm long. Seeds ± ovoid, 0.8–1 mm long, pale to greyish orange.
